Young
People on Druids Heath
The
solution and not the problem!
There are
at least 400 young people living on Druids Heath who are aged between 11 and 15.
They are citizens of this City and the future of this City. They are the sons
and daughters, the grandsons and grand-daughters of the residents of Druids
Heath.
This piece
of youth work came about when we were asked to contribute to a discussion about
anti-social behaviour for the Young Peoples Parliament. We have chosen not to
say too much in this introduction from the Youth Workers as we believe that the
words, actions and ideas of the young people are powerful and
speak for themselves. These young people have consulted over 150 other young
people and have worked to present their ideas in many creative ways.
Please
listen to our future.

Young Peoples
Introduction
As
the youth of today, we have been targeted as the problem rather than the
solution. A group of us from the Maypole Centre were involved in
looking at anti-social behaviour. We
were concerned about the number of issues raised during this debate.
We can see that most people in our community would prefer us to disappear
but realistically they should acknowledge that we are part of this community.

Am I Anti-Social

Maypole Action Group
Lyrics
Where
are we supposed to go?
Why do we keep our heads low
Were always in a gang
Cuz theres no where to hang
Am I anti-social if Im in a group?
Hoodys and caps that what we wear
Why do people stop and stare
Why do we get the blame, cuz theres trouble every where
I dont know, I dont know
Where
are we supposed to go?
Why do we keep are heads low
Were always in a gang
Cuz theres no where to hang
When
kids cotch on walls
Most people think its uncool
Troubles caused by a football
People think were bitter
Cuz people drop their litter
Should we care should we care?
Where
are we supposed to go?
Why do we keep are heads low
Were always in a gang
Cuz theres no where to hang
Maypole
Youth Centre has bought us together
Theres been a debate
To rebuild the estate
Theres so many of us
Doing our things just as friends
Not as gangs not as gangs
Where
are we supposed to go?
Why do we keep are heads low
Were always in a gang
Cuz theres no where to hang
