The music production course started in January 2003 with the aim of giving young people at the Maypole the chance to get involved in music. The particular target group was young people who were not in mainstream education. James Jeffery (aka DA GUVNA) and Joseph Cole (aka THE GIFT) were employed to run the programme.

They worked on a number of tracks with the youth producing beats and teaching them how to use programmes such as Logic 5.5 and Reason 2. Not only were the beats produced but lyrics were written and laid on to the rhythms.
